It could be a problem connected to the power supply given by the readout or logger. When the power supply is in the current loop (2-wire gauge) it is necessary to consider the effect of voltage drop across the shunt resistor on the voltage applied to the gauge. For example, suppose a 4-20mA gauge requires […]

Sisgeo suggest that frozen water within the inclinometer casings is to be avoided due to following reasons: – Ice within the casing will affect functionality of the systems by blocking the individual probes;– Mechanical damages can occur to the probes, but also to the inclinometer casing due to the expansion of frozen water In any […]

The TRIGGER function of the two digital inputs available on OMNIAlog datalogger is typically used with seismic station. In case of an event (earthquake), the seismic station is usually able to supply a certain tension on its output (typically 5Vdc). If this output is connected to the digital input of OMNIAlog, and OMNIAlog is conveniently […]

OMNIAlog is equipped with a microSD 2GB memory. This memory allows to save a very high number of readings. For this reason, it is necessary to bear in mind what follows: Therefore SISGEO strongly suggests to periodically download data and, later, to delete them from OMNIAlog memory. This way it is guaranteed an efficient data download.

The maximum instrument cable length from DEX probe to datalogger is 200 m. If the automatic data acquisition system includes distributed external multiplexer box, the maximum cable length is 200m from DEX probe to multiplexer box plus 200m from multiplexer box to OMNIAlog (in total 400m).

The dimensions of the measures file “in columns” downloaded with OMNIAlog and miniOMNIAlog vary according to the number of sensors acquired and the stored cycles of acquisition. The higher is the number of sensors acquired and the number of cycles of acquisition stored, bigger is the dimension of the file. It could be used the […]

Yes, if OMNIAlog is equipped with a 2G (GSM/GPRS) modem, connected through a serial cable to its RS232 port. OMNIAlog allows to set up alarm thresholds and the notification of these alarms could occur: – by SMS; – by email; – by FTP; – increasing the acquisition frequency; – managing a digital output (for example to manage […]

The cable lengths depend from many factors, first of all installation and cable protections (screen, earth, etc…). Assuming that instruments are installed in a workmanlike, for the maximum cable lengths should be followed the next suggestions: DIGITAL INSTRUMENTS: see FAQ#73 ANALOGUE INSTRUMENTS: see both downloadable documents.

All SISGEO digitized instruments  (IPIs, Tiltmeters, H-Level…) use the RS-485 serial communication protocol The RS485 protocol contemplate a termination resistor. The recommended chain connection is point-to-point (multidropped) nodes as a bus mode (line). Star, ring or multiply network connection are not recommended. SISGEO dataloggers has already a termination resistor assembled (typically 120Ω). On the opposite […]

All SISGEO digital sensors (e.g. IPI, BH Profile, MD Profile, LT Inclibus, Tilt-meter, RDS, H-Level, etc.) use the Modbus communication protocol over RS-485 serial. SISGEO digital sensors are connected to each other with a single signal cable. The parameters that are configured at the factory for each digital sensor are as follows: Upon confirmation of […]

The sensors are read connecting the end cable to a Modbus Master unit (i.e. OMNIAlog or miniOMNIAlog) with RS-485 interface (DCE, Half duplex, no Echo) able to manage communication with SISGEO Modbus RTU communication protocol. SISGEO’s communication protocol is available for the release upon request. The power [W] of power supply must be chosen according […]

Last update: October 2021 All the SISGEO digitized sensors utilize a RS485 interface with Modbus protocol. 1.The maximum number of digitized sensors in a RS-485 network are 247 (theoretical) 2.The maximum number of digitized sensors chains that is possible to connect to Modbus master unit (as OMNIAlog or miniOMNIAlog) are 4. 3. About the maximum […]

This feature allows to not consume the internal batteries during the configuration phase or during the data download. In this way, independently from the duration of the activities above described, the internal batteries are used only during the field activities (acquisition, data dispatch etc). This guarantees a superior duration of exercise.

Yes, it is. You have to use the tool “miniOMNIAlog communcation tool” that you could find on the USB pen supplied together with miniOMNIalog and on SISGEO website in the product section. It is not necessary to install the tool on the PC. Once you extracted it in a PC local folder, simply starting it, […]

The cause of this is problem is that Excel opens the CSV files with an incorrect encoding. In the CSV files in French, there are some particular characters (example: “é”, “à”) that, to be correctly visualized, need the encoding UNICODE UTF-8. This encoding is not that of default of Excel, so the file is codified […]

Yes. It is possible to connect to OMNIAlog and download data also by means of a Dial-up connection (with protocol PPP). The connection is established using a modem on the normal low frequency voice telephony. The connection is established through the composition of a normal telephonic number, using opportune programs called “dialer”. The maximum speed […]

It is possible to have access to OMNIAlog mini webservers on board using any internet browser. OMNIAlog could be configured to send data / alarms through e-mail and on FTP. There is not an exact ratio for each kind of soil. It depends from many factors that could change for every geological and geotechnical situation. Anyway the grouting should be similar to the soil even if is not really possible to match both characteristics. Approximate Cement/Water/Bentonite mix ratio are: – for hard and medium soil: […]

For VW sensors Sisgeo has developed automatic algorithms to search for the resonant frequency in case of environmental noise or poor signal. In this way you can distinguish between the natural frequency of the sensor and the frequency of the noise, thereby reducing measurement errors and false alarms. This method also provides improvement in the […]

DEX system has been designed for automatic soil settlement monitoring (vertical movement) in unattended location. DEX system consists of a string of DEX probes installed in borehole within a ABS inclinometer casing. DEX-S, the combined inclinometer-settlement probe, provides both horizontal movements (X, Y-axis) and vertical settlement (Z-axis) for 3-D borehole automatic profile monitoring.

NATM pressure cells are normally used to measure tangential and radial stresses in concrete tunnel lining. They are embedded in concrete and after curing the cell shall be repressurized to mantain the intimate contact between the pessure pad and the surrounding material.

The gauge factors for VW strain-gauges are generic factors calculated from the dimensions and the physical properties of the gauge material. The VW strain-gauges arep roduced in series with industrial method, so each strain gauge is equal to the other: it means that the gauge factor of VW strain gauges do not change. The Gauge […]

If the water filled casing is lighter than grout backfill the uplift force of grout varies with the height of the grout column. If the column is short, the uplift force is low and the casing can be held in place by its own weight or with very little down-force applied from the top. When […]

A good practice for getting good readings with inclinometer probe is to follow these simple operations: – Use the same probe for each survey, if possible; – if you must use a different probe, be sure to note the serial number of the probe used for each survey, so any necessary corrections can be made […]

A good practice for the inclinometer users is to follow these simple recommendations: – when you connect the inclinometer operating cable to the probe, avoid overtightening the nut, since this will flatten the O-ring and reduce its effectiveness; – use a pulley assembly. It protects the inclinometer operating cable and provides a good reference index; […]

The measurement of total pressure in geomechanics, even if is one of the most interesting parameters for the designer, is generally considered not reliable. Case histories report more nonsuccessful examples than for all the other types of measurements. Theoretical studies made by many researches have highlighted the critical parameters in the design and manufacturing of […]

HAE (High air entry) filters are normally used to monitor pore pressure in the clay core dams and saturated low permeability soils. “High air entry” means high-resistance to air entry when the filter is saturated. The surface tension of the water in the very fine porus of the filter prevents entry of air. The HAE […]

Yes, each vibrating wire piezometer, as every Sisgeo vibrating wire instrument, is equipped with a built-in NTC thermistor YSI 44005 type (3000 Ohm at 25°C). Thermistor is not a option for vibrating wire instruments and therefore there is not additional cost for it.

The main factors which influence the anchor measurements are: – axial misalignment of the jack– difference in diameter between the jack and the load cell. These factors cause bending of the bearing plate between the load cell and the jack and affects the response of the cell. To minimise this effect use the genuine distribution […]

Sisgeo liquid mix is de-aired at factory and it is supplied sealed in special tank. However in the DSM reference gauge there is a high sensitive sensor which is able to monitor the weight of the liquid within the reservoir. In the case of the air bubbles come over decreasing the level of the liquid […]

Any factor (water, mud etc.) that could dirty the internal part of the “SUS” optical sensor unit’s cover can influence the TEL-310S correct functioning. So it is essential to protect properly the “SUS” optical sensor unit from weather conditions, leaving anyway the access possibility for cleaning/maintenance. In any case, TEL-310S has an auto-diagnostics able to […]

To fix the “SUS” optical sensor unit through the “ANS” support, it is necessary that the direct pendulum’s wire is at a distance of d=230 mm. from the wall. To achieve that, the direct pendulum’s tank has to be placed at a distance of  D=20 mm. from the wall: in this way is guaranteed that […]

The “ANS” adjustable support (0TEL310ANS0) has been developed to support and fix the “SUS” optical sensor unit (0TEL310SUS0) of the new TEL-310S telecoordinometer. The support is fixed to the wall through two M16 threaded bars, of 370 mm. length (supplied). Once the “SUS” optical sensor unit is fixed to the support, it is possible to […]

It is possible to use the pendulum optical manual readout instead of TEL-310S “SUS”  optical sensor unit without any regulation of the “ANS” support. It is also possible to start the pendulum’s monitoring with the pendulum optical manual readout and then automate the readings with TEL-310S telecoordinometer , without changing its initial zero.
